You have probably seen them around town lately. The cars are quieter, they have got those green number plates, and more of your neighbours seem to be driving them. Electric vehicles are popping up everywhere in 2026. Maybe you have even had a thought yourself: “Should I get one?”
But then the brain kicks in, and you start thinking about the practical stuff. You might live in an older house. You might rent. You might not have a garage. The Home Charging Side of Things

Of course, all the fast chargers in the world don’t matter if you can’t charge where you sleep. Most EV charging happens at home. If you are looking at getting a charger installed, there are a few things to know.
First, you will need to chat with your local network provider. For example, if you are in South Australia, drawing more than 20 amps requires approval from SA Power Networks. It is not perfect. There are still queues on long weekends. There are still towns with one broken charger and no backup. But compared to five years ago, the difference is night and day.
