Electrician Teneriffe

Electrician Teneriffe - Electrical Work for Lofts, Apartments and Heritage Homes
Teneriffe is one of Brisbane’s most stylish riverside suburbs. Its old wool stores are now loft apartments, its leafy streets are full of Queenslanders, and its cafés and restaurants are always busy. Every one of these buildings needs safe, reliable power.
If you need an electrician in Teneriffe, CM Electrical is ready to help. We are a licensed Brisbane team that works in Teneriffe, New Farm and Newstead every week. We fix faults, design lighting, upgrade old wiring and install EV chargers. We explain everything in plain English, and we always give you a price before we start.
What Kind of Homes Does a Teneriffe Electrician Work On?
Teneriffe is a small suburb, but it has three very different kinds of homes. Each one needs a slightly different approach from your electrician.
Home type | Where you find them | Common electrical needs |
Warehouse lofts | Converted wool stores near Macquarie Street and the river | Lighting for high ceilings, cables on brick and timber, extra circuits |
Modern apartments | New buildings along the river and near Vernon Terrace | Extra power points, pendant lights, EV chargers, fault repairs |
Queenslanders and cottages | The streets of Teneriffe Hill | Old wiring, switchboard upgrades, safety switches, renovations |
Because we work on all three, we know what to look for before we arrive. That means fewer surprises, faster jobs and a better result for you.
Can an Electrician Work in a Heritage Wool Store Loft?
Yes, and it is some of the most interesting work we do. Teneriffe’s wool stores were built more than 100 years ago to store and sell wool from across Queensland. Today, many of them are heritage listed and have been turned into loft apartments with tall ceilings, huge timber beams and bare brick walls.
These features look amazing, but they make electrical work a little harder. You cannot simply hide cables inside a hollow wall, because many walls are solid brick. Ceilings can be four or five metres high, so changing a light may need a tall ladder or a platform. The building’s heritage rules may also limit what can be changed in shared areas.
We plan every loft job carefully. Where cables cannot be hidden, we use neat conduit or cable trays that suit the industrial look of the space. We choose light fittings that work well with high ceilings, and we check with your body corporate before we start any work in shared areas.
The original wiring in older conversions may also be showing its age. If your loft was converted many years ago, it is worth having the wiring and switchboard checked. Our guide on old electrical wiring and new appliances explains why older circuits can struggle with modern living.

How Do You Light a Loft or Apartment With High Ceilings?
Good lighting is what turns a big open space into a warm, welcoming home. In Teneriffe’s lofts and apartments, we often use a mix of lights to get the best result.
Pendant lights hang lower from high ceilings and bring light closer to where you need it, like over the kitchen bench or dining table. Track lighting lets you point lights at artwork, brick walls or feature spaces. LED strip lighting can sit on top of beams or under cupboards to add a soft glow. Dimmers let you change the mood from bright and practical to calm and cosy.
Our LED lighting service covers design and installation. We help you choose the right lights, put them in the right spots and set them up so they are easy to use every day.
What Electrical Problems Do Teneriffe Hill Homes Have?
Up the hill from the river, Teneriffe is full of Queenslanders and small timber cottages. Many have been lovingly restored, but the wiring behind the walls is not always as new as the paint.
The most common problems we find are old fuse boxes, missing safety switches, worn cables and circuits that are overloaded by modern appliances. Signs to watch out for include flickering lights, breakers that trip often, warm power points and a burning smell.
If your home still has its old wiring, we can rewire your home with new, safe cables. This is best done during a renovation, when walls and floors are already open. We work carefully to protect timber walls, VJ boards and ceilings, so your home keeps its character.
Can I Install an EV Charger in My Teneriffe Apartment?
In most cases, yes. Teneriffe is a great suburb for electric cars, with short trips to the city and most homes having secure parking.
If you have your own garage, we can usually fit an EV charger quickly. In an apartment building, the car park and power supply are shared, so you will need body corporate approval first. We can check how much spare power your building has, and help plan a system that lets more owners add chargers in the future.

Who Looks After the Electrics in a Teneriffe Apartment Building?
In most buildings, the owner looks after the wiring inside their own apartment, and the body corporate looks after shared areas. That includes common lighting, car park lights, shared switchboards, lifts and emergency lighting.
For building managers and body corporates, our building electrical management services provide regular checks, maintenance and quick repairs. Having one trusted electrician who knows your building saves time, money and stress.

Should I Get the Wiring Checked Before Buying in Teneriffe?
It is a very good idea. Teneriffe homes are in high demand, and many of the buildings are old, even when the inside looks brand new. A fresh coat of paint can hide old wiring, poor DIY work or an out of date switchboard.
A pre purchase electrical inspection gives you a clear report on the condition of the electrics before you sign. You will know what needs fixing, roughly what it may cost, and whether the home is safe for you and your family.
Common Jobs We Do in Teneriffe
Many of our Teneriffe jobs are in warehouse lofts, where owners want better lighting for high ceilings and brick walls. In apartments, we often add extra power points, fix tripping circuits and install EV chargers in shared car parks. Up on Teneriffe Hill, older Queenslanders often need switchboard upgrades and new safety switches to handle modern appliances. Whatever the home, we test everything and leave it safe and tidy.
